Don't forget to read the Rules carefully !​​

PARTICIPANTS

  • Individuals of any nationality, no matter whether you are member of a club or not.

  • You must be 18 at the time of participating in the race.

  • You must know and accept the conditions of these rules.

  • Accept the disclaimer and declaration and bring a medical certificate dated less than 6 months.

 

REGISTRATION

  • Registrations are possible through the SWIM SARDINIA website (www.swimsardinia.com)

  • Closing date for registration is 10th September 2019

Your registration includes:

  • The accommodation during the event (Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night)

  • Meals – dinner on Thursday evening, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday, Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday

  • The additional night, including breakfast (Sunday or Wednesday) will be charged at 30 € extra

  • All the boat/land transfers during the event (except the transfer from / to the Airport)

  • Swimming cap

  • Accident insurance

  • Medical assistance during the event

  • Event t-shirt / race pack

  • The meditation sessions and Pilates & Yoga

  • Trophies for winners

 

ROUTE AND BUOYS

A sufficient number of buoys will be placed in order to indicate the course.

The start will take place from the beach.

During the contest, the swimmers have the right to stand up momentarily (i.e. in shallow areas or on rocks), but are no permitted to walk.  Walking will result in disqualification.

Swimmers should not rely on a fixed or floating object (boat or kayak) – penalisation is at discretion of the organisers.

Boats or kayaks can be touched, to get refreshments, drink or to rest temporarily.

The finish line will be under the HEAD arch.

 

SUPPORT BOATS AND KAYAKS

The swimmers will be monitored from kayaks and safety boats, to ensure their safety.

At all times, the swimmers must follow the line of kayaks, which will guide them throughout the crossing.

 

All kayaks are marked with brightly coloured life jackets, to help the swimmers to swim in the right direction.

The organisation might decide to change the race course/s or limit the distance, in the case of adverse weather conditions.

REFRESHMENTS AND ASSISTANCE

Refreshments / buffet is provided for all participants at the finish of each HEAT.

Refreshments in the form of drinks, water and energy bars will be provided to participants, along the way, by the safety boats. 

Technical assistance along the route of the race: medical care and security assistance are guaranteed throughout the event, with fixed points along the course and at the finish area.  Mobile units will able be available in case of emergency.

For any emergency or distress while in the water, participants must activate their RESTUBE and raise the inflated yellow buoy upwards, to signal their need for immediate assistance.

 

WITHDRAWAL

If a participant decides to withdraw, he must:

 

  1. Request help by lifting one hand.

  2. Use the whistle (on the RESTUBE) to warn the closest kayak / boat.

 

The organisation reserves the right to force a swimmer to withdraw from the event:

 

  • Whenever a swimmer shows signs of extreme fatigue, dehydration, hypothermia, or is swimming at an extremely slow pace, or has any abnormal symptoms, which prevent them from swimming normally.

 

  • If a swimmer fails to comply with any of the regulations, which govern these rules (see section on Disqualifications).

 

  • If the obligatory cut-off time from the start of each HEAT has passed (3 hours/4hours/2.5 hours).

CHANGE TO THE ROUTE(S) AND / OR SUSPENSION OF THE HEAT’S COURSE.

For reasons of force majeure beyond its control (i.e. adverse weather conditions), the organisation reserves the right to suspend, divert, neutralize or change the event’s time slots and/or courses and refreshments, and to evacuate all participants.

 

TYPE OF FAULT / [ PENALTIES ]

  1. Disposing of rubbish in unauthorised areas or any kind of behaviour which does not respect the natural environment  [ Disqualification ]

  2. Unsporting behaviour to wards other athletes or the organisation [ Disqualification ]

  3. Lack of compulsory equipment [ Disqualification ]

  4. Participating in the event without having signed up [ Expulsion and a ban on participating in future ]

  5. Not following the route marked out by the organisation [ Disqualification ]

  6. Failure to assist another person [ Disqualification ]

  7. Withdrawal without informing the organisation of your withdrawal [ Ban on participating in future events ]

  8. Not following orders from stewards or medical staff [ Disqualification ]

  9. Climbing into a support vessel, kayak or refreshment boat [ Disqualification ]

  10. Exceeding the maximum permitted swimming time [ Disqualification and should give up the event in a boat of the organization ]

The organisation reserves the right to penalise any participant because of behaviour not contained on the above list of faults, but which violates the provisions of these rules.

 

IMAGE RIGHTS

The SARDINIA SWIM TREK reserves exclusive rights to all images, audio visual and print media of the event and the competition.  Any media or advertising must be approved by the organisation.

 

RESULTS & CLASSIFICATION

Results of each heat will be presented at the de-briefing / briefing meeting in the afternoon.  The final results of the TREK will be published before the prize giving on Sunday afternoon.

REWARDS

The heats are timed and the classification will be overall, by gender, by age group and a distinction will be made between swimmers wearing wetsuits, and swimmers not wearing wetsuits.

  • Wetsuits (Neoprene) is allowed.

  • FINA approved full body swimsuits are allowed and considered to be part of the category “NO WETSUIT”.

  • Water temperature: estimated between 19-21 degrees.

 

The winners of SARDINIA SWIM TREK will receive a trophy (only on the ranking of the FINAL – completion of the 3 heats)

 

  • 1st OVERALL MALE

  • 2nd OVERALL MALE

  • 3rd OVERALL MALE

 

  • 1st OVERALL FEMALE

  • 2nd OVERALL FEMALE

  • 3rd OVERALL FEMALE

 

A T-SHIRT will reward «the finishers», those swimmers who will manage to complete the 3 heats.

DECLARATION OF GOOD HEALTH

Registering for the event implies the participant’s acceptance of the rules and that they are properly prepared for the event and aware of the severe weather conditions, which can be found in the area where the race is being held. Consequently, the participant holds harmless the organisation for any possible health problems that may arise as a result of their participation in the race.

 

MARKING - ENTRANCE STARTING AREA

The staff will verify that each swimmer is adequately equipped for the start of each HEAT.  Number marking will be applied before departure, on the back of the hand.

 

Each swimmer MUST wear the following equipment (provided during registration):

  1. CAP (GOLD colour)

  2. RESTUBE.  Security system for all swimmers. **

** The RESTUBE is a safety devise, which is meant to provide a means of support and visibility, and must be worn completely inflated during the heats. The RESTUBE must be returned in perfect condition upon arrival from each SWIM.  If the participant is unable to return the RESTUBE and / or is damaged, they will be charged € 55 by the Organisation.

Those who do not wear the RESTUBE may not take part in the start of the race.

 

  • The briefing will be at approximately 9:45 am

  • The start is fixed at approximately 11.00 am

  • Participants will be aligned on the start-line only a few meters from the shoreline and the start will be given from the beach.

  • The START will be valid just after the start signal, following the countdown given by the speaker.

  • The briefing will clarify the race, the safety rules and the track.

 

DISCLAIMER

Participants registered in the event understand that they are taking part in the competition willingly and at their own risk, and therefore release the Organisers of the event of all liabilities and agree not to bring any cases against the organisers, partners, sponsors and other participants, or to make any claim of civil liability against the afore mentioned parties. For this purpose, when registering, the participant must tick the box to accept the disclaimer to complete their registration.

 

SWIMMERS RESPONSABILITY

The swimmer takes full responsibility for their participation. The organisers cannot be held responsible for theft, breakage or accidents before, during or after the event.

The organisation takes no responsibility for accidents taking place during the swim, due to the natural conditions of the sea (i.e. shallow rocks) nor does the organization take responsibility for accidents caused by incompetence, negligence or poor signalling.

The organisation guarantees that all the appropriate safety equipment and measures will be in place.

 

Each swimmer participates in each event through choice and as such the organisation takes no responsibility for personal injuries or injuries to third parties.

 

It is the responsibility of the participant to decide whether they should abandon or continue with the event.

 

The organisation takes no responsibility for infringements to current national and regional water and beach regulations, made by participants or their companions.

 

The organisation, its sponsors and collaborators take no responsibility for the actions of swimmers and their companions, which may lead to claims/lawsuits by third parties.

The use of a WETSUIT is ALLOWED and OPTIONAL (required only if the water temperature is below 19 °).

 

IMAGE COPYRIGHT

Every participant registered in the SARDINIA SWIM TREK expressly authorises free use of fixed or moving images, where he/she is represented, of his/her personal information and their distribution to and through media (e.g. print or TV) for promotional or publicity purpose, present and future, related to the SARDINIA SWIM TREK and other sport events.

 

PROTECTION / DEFENSE CLAUSE

Swimmers and Associations, by sending the SARDINIA SWIM TREK application form, declare that they have consciously read and accepted the rules and regulations described and published on the website:www.openwater-outdoor.com.

Anything that is not included in this document is regulated as per the “International Open Water Rules issued by WOWSA 2015”, and the International Technical Regulations WOWSA (downloadable from the website: www.worldopenwaterassociation.com).

 

INFORMATION

The organiser can modify the above rules at anytime, in order to ensure the best organisation of the event, relating to safety.  All modifications will be communicated to the participants by email, or can be read on the website www.openwater-outdoor.com.
